Proud Stories: Mirirai Sithole (she)

Q: What kind of performance artist are you?
I am an actor, singer and dancer. My foundations are in devised theatre and ensemble work and musical theatre is where I got my start.
Q: When did you first know that you wanted to be a full-time artist?
2020! I felt energized by all the possibilities to create while in the midst of a global crisis. That’s when it locked in for me that being an artist is a major part of my life’s work.
Q: How are you keeping yourself inspired to create during this unprecedented time?
Continuing to celebrate my friend’s wins, watching TV shows that have long been on my list and I get inspired by my REM dreams so I sleep/nap a lot.
Q: What is the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome as an artist and how did you overcome it?
Trusting that even when there is a lull in consistent work, that everything works out for the good of all in divine time. I have experienced sustained and oftentimes subtle traumas working within the industry and I’m grateful for my support groups of friends and colleagues who continue to lift me up and reach out to create together.
Q: What are you most proud of in your career thus far?
Staying alive! 🦋
Q: Is there anything you are working on now that can be shared and supported?
