Proud Stories: Christina D. Eskridge (She/Her)

Q: What kind of performance artist are you?
I'm a singer, actor, dancer. I'm also a theater company owner, producer, playwright and director.
Q: When did you first know that you wanted to be a full-time artist?
I'm working to create connections for people between the arts and health. I believe that the performing arts can be used for community healing and education. I'm trying to use these times to bring live performances to people through technology and to fuse that with health conversations.
Q: How are you keeping yourself inspired to create during this unprecedented time?
Thinking that being on Broadway is the only way to be a "successful artist" was my biggest obstacle. When you first land in NYC, especially if you're a musical theater artist, there's this notion that you haven't "made it" unless you're on Broadway. But, that definition of success isn't nearly broad enough for what I truly want to do with my artistry. I had to let go of a narrow-minded way of looking at success and step into what I really wanted to do.
Q: What is the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome as an artist and how did you overcome it?
My work in Up and Away with Trusty Sidekick Theater Company at Lincoln Center Education. It was a magical show for children on the autism spectrum. It taught me so much and opened doors I never would have imagined.
Q: What are you most proud of in your career thus far?
My work in Up and Away with Trusty Sidekick Theater Company at Lincoln Center Education. It was a magical show for children on the autism spectrum. It taught me so much and opened doors I never would have imagined.

We are also looking to "Elevate This Moment" and capture any health and health care stories from those who are working in health care during COVID-19. Either in a written communication, one-on-one interview, or group workshop setting, we are looking to capture, amalgamate and perform these historic health and health care stories. We hope to not only capture this moment in history, but also bring some catharsis to those sharing their stories with us.
If interested in sharing your health or health care story, please contact info@elevatetheatrecompany.com with the subject: Elevate This Moment. We look forward to hearing from you and for the opportunity to Elevate This Moment.
