Proud Stories: Tijuana Ricks (she/her)

Q: What kind of performance artist are you?
Actor/Writer/Director
Q: When did you first know that you wanted to be a full-time artist?
The first show I performed in with my sketch comedy troupe in college.
Q: How are you keeping yourself inspired to create during this unprecedented time?
Submitting to fellowships/competitions/festivals and setting writing deadlines for myself.
Q: What is the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome as an artist and how did you overcome it?
Paying for life! I put my head down and worked a few day jobs for a while and eventually my work as an actor picked up to where I could support myself without the office work.
Q: What are you most proud of in your career thus far?
I wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the web series The Corps in September of 2020 in the middle of the shutdown. We shot the entire series quickly, safely, and the episodes are hilarious. It wasn't easy producing during COVID but it's garnered a ton of views and I'm extremely proud the work.
Q: Is there anything you are working on now that can be shared and supported?
The Corps is currently running in the ABFF Comedy Festival online until 6/13! Vote for us for the Audience Award here: AudienceAward or on the ABFF Comedy Festival Official Selections page! See the entire series here @thecorpscomedy or thecorpscomedy.com
